Fig + Nash designed its first restaurant in Palm Desert, The Cowboy Cantina, just up the street from the Fig + Nash design boutique on El Paseo. This restaurant offers an interesting twist on Southwest style cuisine, creating food based in the rustic cooking and recipes of dishes that were eaten by colonial Spanish settlers, American Cowboys, Native Americans, and the people of Mexico. With this eclectic culinary direction, the design firm was tasked with translating their movie producer/ restauranteur’s creative vision into a chic, desert reality that would welcome guests time and time again.
The exterior of building was older and very beige. Since the end-goal was to create a destination that would stand out from both the outside and the inside, the firm painted the exterior black. That totally changed the vibe. For the huge interior, Fig + Nash created a hip, modern, stylized desert theme that came to life through their choices in wallpapers, lighting, furniture, and original commissioned art. Working with several go-to vendors, like Cambria solid surfaces, who fabricated a custom 40 linear Ft. bar, made the project seamless. Cowboy Cantina Palm Desert is a truly unique dining and drinking establishment for the Coachella Valley. Its food and décor scream come on in, pull up a chair, and stay a while.
